Description

There are a number of exercises in this book that, when done consistently, will lessen the noises raging in your brain. Professor Paul Salkovskis is Professor of Clinical Psychology and Applied Science and Programme Director of the forthcoming doctorate programme in clinical psychology at the University of Bath. The book is, I feel, an invaluable step-by-step guide for young people and their families as well as being an excellent resource for the counsellor/therapists.

Includes: detailed information on the many different manifestations of OCD; the differences between normal and obsessive worries; clear information on treating your individual problem; real-life case studies and examples; and advice and support for friends and family of OCD sufferers.Fantastic book to learn everything about OCD, breaking the stigma that OCD is only based on behaviour compulsions. is presented as a "self-treatment programme", which aims to: (a) explain what OCD is; and (b) how to fix it. Sometimes well meaning people think that eating good, exercising and sticking on a mindfulness app will cure all mental ills. Very nice to know this support is out there as quite often hard to actually get an opportunity to speak to someone in person these days. This questionnaire will provide you with a rough idea of how much the obsessions and compulsions are interfering in your life.

My only complaint is that the book seems to have bene written in the '90s (1999, apparently) and occasionally feels dated - namely in its sections on health anxiety, which consistently refer to HIV and AIDS as the end-all-be-all of illnesses. This book, written by experts, explains OCD in its many forms in simple terms and the practical steps in how to overcome it.This resource may be useful for a school counsellor parent, or trusted adult, who could use it as the basis for supporting a young person presenting with OCD. Your local library service also offers many Reading Well books as ebooks and audiobooks, free to download. Whether one is compelled to clean more and more thoroughly, is plagued by "bad" thoughts, or feels the need to keep checking if they've turned off appliances, obsessive worries can become a drain on daily life--but this guide offers hope for sufferers. I can assure you nobody wants intrusive thoughts that are flashes of dead loved ones or the random thought you might have killed someone in the night and just not remembering doing it. She studied experimental psychology at the University of Oxford, clinical psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, and trained in CBT at the University of Oxford.

It is helpful to complete this questionnaire once now (before you start to overcome OCD) and again when you finish working through all of the chapters in Part B of this book. It offers detailed information on the many different manifestations of OCD, including rumination OCD; explains the differences between normal and obsessive worries; provides clear step-by-step information on treating one's individual problem; discusses real-life case studies and examples; and gives advice and support for friends and family of OCD sufferers.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. A lovely bunch of people, very empathetic and willing to share their experiences as well as their own coping mechanisms. Sometimes OCD makes you really worried about upsetting thoughts, and you might find it difficult to make progress until you have worked on these worries.

Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). To get a score that will indicate how much the compulsions are interfering in your life, simply add up the numbers that you have circled for each of these questions.Whether your condition is mild or severe, this definitive resource will help you reclaim your life and keep OCD away for good. I recommend trying to read up-to-date resources as well if you are looking to do the self-directed program. From understanding child anxiety and OCD, to learning how to talk with an anxious child, to avoiding common traps and pitfalls (such as being overly protective or demanding), to identifying the ways in which parents have been enabling a child's anxious behaviors, this book is full of detailed guidance and practical suggestions.
