Few other watch brands in the same price category offer as good build quality, durability, and finish, as Seiko Regardless, to have a sturdy and reliable automatic movement at this price point is still a great value proposition from Seiko.The bracelet is light, rattles, and does not give a reassuring feeling of quality and premium finish. This is the reason why many people tend to opt for replacement straps for their affordable watches. The principle is mirrored in the Seiko equally, with slight deviations from the designs at the quarters to aid orientation in the dark, with the day and date display dominating at three. The hands are just as sleek and simple, one long, one short and one skinny. The only flair comes from the sunburst texture of the dial, but we’ll let Seiko off for that one as it’s really quite smart. The watch has a water resistance of 30M/3ATM. This is a downside of this movement as it is certainly not a lot. It can handle water splashes but should not be submerged. At the same time, it is important to consider that this watch is made as an everyday timepiece, and therefore, good water resistance is not crucial. Once again, the SNXS's water resistance is on par with every other cheap Seikos. The push & pull crown only allows for 30m of water resistance, which is ok for a few splashes here and there, but nothing more. The dial of the SNX79 keeps it from being boring. The watch has a lovely ”dark rhodium”/ dark grey dial with a striking sunburst finis. This makes for a playful dial that reflects the light beautifully.

It would just have been nice if at least some of the other parts of the bracelet would have been polished as well. The bracelet is usually the part of a watch that is compromised with the most when it comes to affordable watches. This is definitely not the best bracelet out there, but considering the price, it is what we would expect. That classic Rolex look really does boil down to just a few things: it’s clean, it’s simple and it’s well-proportioned. A Rolex is to luxury watches what a chimpanzee is to primates—the best, the original, the classic. When a design is as refined as a Rolex, anything else feels like needless excess, and so when you’re looking at a budget alternative, the same criteria apply. The Seiko SNXS79 follows much the same principles. There’s a dial demarcated with hands and markers to read the time from, a case to stop it getting wet and a bracelet to stop it falling off. Bells?
