Home is with the other half of your soul, the person who shares in your grief and helps you carry the burden of loss. The front and middle rooms of the gallery evoke the feeling of an open plan, communal area, bright and convivial, offering a space to chat and share ideas. Pitts has created rooms representative of the past, present and future by merging objects from his childhood home with cultural influences from across the globe, underpinned by the ideas of seminal Black thinkers. He is lead vocalist and lyricist for King Midas Sound and has also recorded solo albums with Jahtari Records.

Home is the friendships we forge, the people we can count on, the people we know love us as we are, the people who keep loving and accepting us even when we mess up. Johny Pitts is the curator of the ENAR (European Network Against Racism) award-winning online journal ‘Afropean’ and the author of ‘Afropean: Notes From Black Europe’. It is a thing of brilliance , with its own immersive energy, pulling the reader in and allowing them to wander around the world of Black Britain created on these pages.

The stories captured in the film and the book echo across centuries of the black experience, transforming and illuminating the history of Britain.

Pitts invites you to come in, take a seat and feel right at home - to experience what home means to him - whether you’re flicking through family photo albums, chatting and sharing ideas, or listening to pirate radio playlists from Pitts’ 1980s youth. As I sat in admiration of how lucky I am to be able to witness such beauty, I couldn’t help but feel like I was being hugged.

Late last year, I spent sometime in the United States of America, during that time, I went to Puerto Rico for a weekend.
