For the Game Boy, you can set a colorization option to mimic older LCD panels. My favorite is called “Special 1”.” For the second TF card, the higher SD card is suggested such as 128GB if you prefer to load EVERY 8-bit and 16-bit game out there, all of the arcade games that work, and a large number of CD-based game files (Sega CD, PSX, Saturn, Dreamcast, and so on).

With a lot of console makers making their way into T618 CPUs or whatever will become the next standard… the 3566 is sounding like old news. The PowKiddy X55 comes with 16GB microSD card ( Jelos OS Preinstalled) as the first TF card. In addition, there’re other versions including a 32GB, 64GB, 128GB card or no expansion card. These cards belong to a generic brand and are prone to failure. It’s suggested to replace your cards with microSD cards from a trustworthy brand that will prevent the cards from getting damaged over time. You can keep the original card in a safe place in case you run into problems in the future. Some emulators have their own hotkeys. For example, to bring up the menu in Yabasanshiro (the default Saturn emulator), press the SELECT button. In PPSSPP (PSP emulator), press the L3 button. More info can be found here.We were hoping that it was a metal shell too, to help add to its saving graces. But it’s just regular old boring plastic. Powkiddy x55 Impressions Image Source: MechDIY The X55 runs JELOS. It runs well, EmulationStation themes are supported, and they can be added manually or with Thememaster now as it's been updated to support the handheld.

Despite being 16:9, it makes for a fairly large screen for any platform, even 4:3 or 1:1 stuff. It's great, and there's nothing else near this size for the price.PSP improved greatly with JELOS updates, and many games run full speed, most at 2x PSP resolution. It won't do highly intensive games like MGS Peacewalker, Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, and God of War, but anything lighter runs just fine. I've tested many games without any issues, some with frameskip, but many without. I'm pleasantly surprised, and majorly impressed with the JELOS devs. Also within the UI Settings menu you can set the EmulationStation language, choose to swap the A and B buttons within the menu, and choose to see the frames per second (FPS) when playing games in RetroArch. Now when you turn on your controller, the X55 should automatically find the controller and assign it to the appropriate player. PortMaster The fisrt TF card slot on the game console contains the system firmware, so a 16GB card is ideal. The second TF card slot is to store the game files. so it needs a larger card for that slot. You can either use a single card to store both your system files and games on one card, or you can separate the two functions with a dual card SD. I recommend a dual card setup for ease of use, and you can use the second SD card in other devices with a similar setup.

In the System Settings section you can set your time zone, display options (e.g. saturation level) and update your JELOS firmware. Also in the UI settings menu, you can set the language of the emulation station, swap the A and B keys in the menu, and display the frames per second (FPS) when playing games in RetroArch. Keyboard Shortcut There are two sets of hotkeys that are important to consider: those while in the main (EmulationStation) menu, and those while in a game (RetroArch for most systems).Looking at the stats for the X55, you can see it’s been in development since last year, using many of the specs that most gaming companies are now moving away from, including Powkiddy themselves. The RK3566 is the same chip used in the Anbernic RG353M, which is one of my most favourite handhelds from last year. Games and BIOS files can be added to or removed from your microSD card at any time, and each time you start the device, it will detect any changes to your game list and update accordingly. Configuring JELOS To give credit where credit is due, the x55 certainly LOOKS very nice. It looks like it will be a dream to hold. Ergonomics look great, and the face is simple. No clutter. Once you have the device in hand, I recommend setting up a fresh installation of the JELOS ( Just Enough Linux OS) custom software. This provides many additional benefits to the PowKiddy X55 and is regularly updated. I’ve been playing on a Pimax Portal lately. That thing does PS2, Game Cube, Wii, and some Switch. So the Powkiddy x55 definitely don’t add anything new to my toolbelt.

So when a new device like this drops, and it’s only spec’d out to play some (not all) Game Cube and PS2 titles… we scoff. The X55 feels pretty lightweight. I don't expect it to hold up to any high drops. It is firm though, no flex or creaking. I disassembled it fairly easily, and the shell clips are strong enough to hold it together without screws. The 8 screws probably help to keep it sturdy and prevent any flexing. The Powkiddy x55 is a pretty nice looking device. The design of the horizontal console is well thought out. It’s a big reason why Powkiddy really wanted to get this one out. Some emulators have their own hotkeys. For example, to access the menu in Yabasanshiro (the default Saturn emulator), press SELECT. In PPSSPP (PSP emulator), press the L3 key. A great news for the game players, the Powkiddy X55 handheld game console came out at the end of June. In this blog, we’re going to make comprehensive guidance for those gamers who are interested in the game console or have some questions about how to use it.

A number of Bluetooth controllers will work with this device, but I have found that the 8bitDo SN30 Pro is a nicely-built controller with wide compatibility. The display is a 5.5" IPS with good viewing angles. It's a quality display, good vibrant color, and you have the ability to adjust contrast, brightness, gamma, and hue in the system settings.
