Silver in the Bone by Alexandra Bracken | Waterstones

Rips relentlessly through the bones of Arthurian myth as Tamsin forges a legacy of her own… engrossing.”— Booklist The surprise factor is there and I enjoyed it!!! I feel sometimes I would have been more surprise if I had known more about the legends that the book talked about, but that's on me and that's not in most of the moments. I will be reading the next books, but before that I will read more about Arthur and his friends. I honestly had a little hard time to enjoy the author’s previous work: Lore. But this is something exceptional! Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Violence & Scariness in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started CloseOne character who doesn’t get much limelight but is still important is Neve. I enjoyed Neve’s character and connection with Tamsin because she is good-natured and willing to open up. Upon joining Tamsin, Emrys, and Cabell on their quest, she brings out open-mindedness and helps Tamsin get out of her shell. Many questions are unanswered and people to stay wary of, but she sets the goal to study up and find her inner power all while facing the unknown. But as word spreads, more and more people begin to take interest...and while Emrys Dye is the last person Tamsin wants to work with, she needs all the help she can get. Most characters read as White. A minor character has brown skin, and beings in the fantasy realm have amber and green skin. Main character is a strong female lead, and a group of nine strong women work together to lead a community.

Synopsis: Tamsin Lark didn’t ask to be a Hollower. As a mortal with no magical talent, she was never meant to break into ancient crypts, or compete with sorceresses and Cunningfolk for the treasures inside. But after her thieving foster father disappeared without so much as a goodbye, it was the only way to keep herself—and her brother, Cabell—alive. In a time of typewriters and steam engines, Iris Winnow awaits word from her older brother, who has enlisted on the side of Enva the Skyward goddess. Alcohol abuse led to her mother’s losing her job, and Iris has dropped out of school and found work utilizing her writing skills at the Oath Gazette. Hiding the stress of her home issues behind a brave face, Iris competes for valuable assignments that may one day earn her the coveted columnist position. Her rival for the job is handsome and wealthy Roman Kitt, whose prose entrances her so much she avoids reading his articles. At home, she writes cathartic letters to her brother, never posting them but instead placing them in her wardrobe, where they vanish overnight. One day Iris receives a reply, which, along with other events, pushes her to make dramatic life decisions. Magic plays a quiet role in this story, and readers may for a time forget there is anything supernatural going on. This is more of a wartime tale of broken families, inspired youths, and higher powers using people as pawns. It flirts with clichéd tropes but also takes some startling turns. Main characters are assumed White; same-sex marriages and gender equality at the warfront appear to be the norm in this world. You always seem to assume the worst,” he said, “and you expect everyone else to do the same. But all you’re really doing is punching at phantoms the rest of us can’t see.”

Tamsin Lark is a hollower. She didn’t want to be. She’s a mortal with no magical powers, unlike her brother. However, her brother, Cabell, has a curse that turns him into a monster (sort of like a werewolf¿). Tamsin finds out that The ring of Dispel can break Cabell’s curse. This book was centred around Isle of Avalon and King Arthur and His Knights, but like other readers, I wish there’d been more mythology incorporated in the world building, story and plot. I’m excited to read more in the sequel. The setting was a bit hard to define. It has the feel of the traditional fantasy setting, but it also seems like it is in the present, so I was a bit confused with that aspect of the story. I think I didn’t expect it to be an urban fantasy going in, so it threw me off a bit. I liked the lore and mythology, the magic and curses, and a lot of the other fantasy elements, even though there were some inconsistencies and some parts confused me, but the world-building was clunky. We are thrown right into the story with little information or context, which I didn’t enjoy, especially because the start was so slow. Later, there were a few passages that felt like info dumps, but some others left me confused and questioning. But she's not the only Hollower who covets the ring and Tamsin is forced into an alliance with the last person she can trust, her rival Emrys. Together, they must journey from underground Boston to the cursed ruins of Avalon where the ghosts of the past await . . . I also found the world quite hard to be enveloped in...I was looking for that completely immersed feeling, and I didn’t get it.

A harrowing and heart-rending adventure about finding the courage to not be controlled by fear.”—J. Elle, New York Times bestselling author of Wings of Ebony because everything else is so much fun. i enjoyed the magic system, the characters are entertaining to read about, and there are twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. so it is a pretty good fantasy book on its own, i just would have liked to see more of the mythology component. so heres hoping that improves with the sequel! Silver in the Bone is the story of Tamsin, who was abandoned ten years ago by her foster father, and now only has her brother as a company while they both work breaking into crypts and tombs in search of treasures. When they have a chance to get something that could save her brother's life, and give them some hint about what happened with their guardian, they take it, without knowing all the dark secrets that are expecting for them.Tamsin is an antihero. She's rebellious, stubborn, sarcastic, contrary, and always sees the worst in people and expects the worst possible outcome. Despite all that she's a good model for teamwork with different groups of people, and even with antagonist Emrys. She also models courage and perseverance as an extremely loyal caretaker to her brother and her mind is always almost exclusively focused on doing whatever she must to help and protect him. The nine priestesses are a good example of women in leadership who work together for the good of their community. years later, Tamsin hears rumours of an ancient Arthurian ring that could free Cabell of the curse that threatens his life.

Silver in the Bone Series by Alexandra Bracken - Goodreads

Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Drinking, Drugs & Smoking in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started Close This book!! This book!! I am obsessed and in love with Silver in the Bone! It was absolutely incredible!Tamsin, our main character, is a really interesting choice; she's pretty unlikeable for a main character, she can be quite rude and standoffish, and sometimes it was hard to be reading the whole story from her perspective. But it does lead for some interesting moments when she's being so pigheaded, and I thought it did end up adding to the story to have an unlikeable main character. Tamsin Lark has always been a Hollower, a treasure hunter, and when rumours swirl about a powerful ring from Arthurian legend that can break her brother's curse, she embarks on her deadliest hunt yet. I can’t give this a star at all because I just couldn’t even do my DNF SKIM finish. I only got 5% and I just couldn’t. I just can’t with some books anymore. Sigh…. Beautiful cover though! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review!
