Description

This is only the second Twisted Tale I’ve read (the other being Reflection, which coincidentally has a somewhat similar storyline) so I can’t rank it in comparison to the others.

Joining her for support is Philoctetes, better known as Phil. The coach to the Gods. If anyone can help Meg work through her quest, it's him. And let's not forget Pegasus!! He's along as well, to give Meg a helping hoof. When Tiana took the easy way out last Mardi Gras she skipped out on learning some very important lessons. If she wants to save those she loves, and indeed the entire city of New Orleans, she’s going to have to learn them now. Her friends are there to help her but she needs to learn how to let them.

Almost There, like all good fairy tales, contained some important life lessons. I won’t spill on what those lessons are but let’s just say that they are just as important for us today as they were for Tiana in 1927. This book was even more heart-wrenching than the movie because it’s one thing to realize that love is important and that you need to slow down and enjoy life. But it’s a completely different thing to have to give up someone you love to protect the others that you love. I was actually pleasantly surprised with this book! In terms of characters, Tiana was so spot on it really felt like I was reading about the same woman from the movie. She hasn’t experienced the same growth she had in the movie, but that’s to be expected since this is a twisted tale; she still thinks she needs to dig a little deeper and work harder to get what she wants. Because of that, she puts a lot of things ahead of herself, even if it’s to her detriment. Charlotte also felt very on point, even though she wasn’t as involved as I had wanted. Naveen, while still very well written, felt different from the movie. You could argue that he had the most growth in the movie, and in the book he’s still growing and learning; Tiana might’ve stagnated but Naveen has discovered he likes work, like helping people. I thought their forbidden relationship was cute, albeit it wasn’t explored very much in depth. I appreciated his point of view, but I would’ve much rather have seen just Tiana and Facilier; it was interesting to see them fighting against the same thing, but in different ways. May I first say, I am unfamiliar with The Princess and the Frog fairy tale and equally unaware of the Disney re-make of the tale so I have no idea what actually happened and how the author 'twisted' it to get this tale. New Orleans • Bayou of New Orleans • Mama Odie's Tree • Tiana's Palace • Maldonia • Dr. Facilier's Voodoo Emporium • Duke's Café • Tiana's Home

Besides her, we got see everyone from the movie - which YAY! I loved seeing Hades being in love because it was both adorable and hilarious at the same time. Then there's Phil and him being great with a baby was all kinds of cute. I can't forget Pegasus one bit either. I enjoyed him and Meg getting closer because of how he acted when she was with Hercules. Also, the quests! Ah - so insane! Fireworks: Disney Dreams! • Disney Enchantment • Happily Ever After • Harmonious • Illuminate! A Nighttime Celebration • Momentous • Wonderful World of Animation • Wondrous Journeys I'm so in love with the way the author wrote this story, especially the descriptions of the cooking and magic. It's a fast, easy read, and it's perfect for younger audiences, and for those who enjoyed The Princess & The Frog and wants a little bit more of Tiana, her passion for cooking and the relationships with her friends and family. All of the scenes with her Mom and Dad seriously tugged on my heartstrings, and a few of them left me in tears. Another thing that I loved was that this is written in third person, and there's more than Tiana's point of view. I will admit, most of these Twisted tales are a massive miss for me. They tear apart the very fiber of the classics I know and love to a point where I disconnect completely. However, when I saw the latest twisted tale would take on an all time favorite in Hercules I knew I had to give this a fighting chance. Disney, you did not disappoint! There is so much of the characters that you know and love from the movie that you can hear the voice of the actor who portrayed them as you're reading. No characters were written in a way that was off-putting or out of character for them. The added characters really enriched the world Meg and Hercules grew up in and getting to learn more about Meg's past was a great addition. The pacing was great and I never fell into a mid-book boredom which can happen to my pretty frequently (which is why I read more than one thing at once).Meg fell for man after trying to betray him then he became a god. What’s a girl to do with that except become a god herself. It’s not that simple but it is so fun. I need to see you understand love is a strength, not a weakness. That putting your trust in someone you love doesn't mean you can't stand on your own two feet. It means you know how to share responsibility and accept help when it is needed... I want to see you know how to be vulnerable, Megara. And understand that love means opening your heart even if the story doesn't always end the way you want it to." Bayou Boogie: Everyday Princess • Live To See You Smile • Shadow Man • Do What I Wanna Do • When You're In Love You'll Understand • Zippin' To The Zydeco • I Was Born To Blow This Horn • Play With The Band • Night and Day • Life In The Swamp • Love is a Magical Mystery • Sing Away The Blues • Mama Odie's Kitchen Song I love that the book focused on Meg instead of Hercules. Meg is one of my favorite Disney characters and is so underrated. This book not only gave Meg her own story, but also dove into her past and showed more of her relationship with Hercules that we didn’t see in the movie.

Hercules was one of my favorite movies as a kid. To be honest, most Disney movies were my favorite as a kid. But I did sing “Go the Distance” for an audition when I was sixteen, so it’s safe to say that the film has always held a special place in my heart. So it should really come as no surprise that I was instantly intrigued by the newest inclusion to Disney’s A Twisted Tale collection. If you haven’t heard of the A Twisted Tale anthology series, it is a collection of "what-if" spin-offs based on your favorite Disney films, and Go the Distance gives readers a chance to explore a scenario where Megara goes on a quest to become a goddess.

Calonita, Len (April 2, 2019). Mirror, Mirror: A Twisted Tale. Disney-Hyperion. ISBN 9781982520458. A Twisted Tale, also called Twisted Tales in editions with the complete series, is an anthology series of books based around alternate " What if" spins on Disney animated and Pixar films. They are published by Disney-Hyperion, and written by different authors, including Liz Braswell, Jen Calonita, Elizabeth Lim, and Farrah Rochon. [1] Books [ edit ] A Whole New World (2015) [ edit ] I did listen to the audiobook and as always, Disney does a great job with that format. The narration was fantastic, perfect for these characters.
